We absolutely ADORE a visit to Universal Orlando Resort and now that Aimee lives permanently in Orlando I am fortunate to be able to visit her there twice a year. I am so lucky to be able to visit Universals two amazing theme parks multiple times each trip and although I do love the fantastic rides and attractions, sometimes I want to take it a little slower and have a more 'adult' friendly day! By 'adult friendly' I am referring to one of those days that you meander around the parks at a leisurely pace grabbing an 'adult' beverage and enjoying the sunshine. Seriously though, what could be better? Here are some of our favourite spots to relax with a grown up drink....
1) Duff Gardens - Springfield, Universal Studios
Springfield is of course, home of the infamous Homer Simpson and family. It is also the home of Duff Beer and a fantastic waterfront location 'beer garden'. Arguably the best location in the park to relax with a drink, we love to grab a Duff Lite beer and a pretzel (complete with plastic cheese!) sit at the bar or one of the waterside tables and reflect of the perfection of life in that moment.
2) Moes Tavern - Springfield, Universal Studios
If it is raining, and lets face it, in Orlando you frequently get caught in a shower, we like to head indoors to Moes Tavern for our Duff Beer fix! The theming inside is fantastic, Homers favourite bar has been faithfully recreated and you can enjoy Duff Beer on tap, perched on a bar stool, or in one of the nearby booths.
3) The Hogs Head - Hogsmeade, Islands of Adventure
Another huge favourite of ours (as demonstrated in many of our Orlando vlogs!) is the Hogs Head Pub in Hogsmeade. Our favourite drink is the Hogs Head Brew and we love to grab our beer on a hot day and make our way out the back door to the seating area. Here we relax and sip our cold beer while enjoying a view of Hogwarts Castle. It's the perfect location to spend the perfect afternoon away from the crowds.
4) Chez Alcatraz - Fishermans Wharf
Located on Fishermans Wharf in the San Francisco area of Universal Studios is Chez Alcatraz. Here you can order a beer or speciality cocktail and in the shadow of Bruce, the shark from the Jaws movies, sip your drink while overlooking the lagoon. We recently tried a frozen mojito in a souvenir glass and it was so cooling and delicious in the hot Orlando temperatures!
5) Backwater Bar - Port of Entry
Hidden away at the entrance/exit to Universal Islands of Adventure is Backwater Bar. Many people walk right by this location and fail to notice that it exists however, if you wish to escape the crowds for a cocktail, beer or mixed drink this is the place to go. Take your pick of a cool indoor or outdoor patio location and watch world go by.
6) Finnegans - New York Area
Our final favourite location has to be Finnegans Irish Bar on the streets of New York in Universal Studios. Finnegans have a full service bar and their excellent bar staff are happy to knock up any cocktail you may be craving! As well as a variety of draught and bottled beers you'll find cocktails named after Universal attractions past and present. We highly recommend the Shark Attack and the Mummy's Revenge!
I hope that I've given you some ideas of where to relax with a drink when you want to take the weight off and chill while you are visiting Universal Orlando Resort. These are our favourites but be sure to leave a comment below if you have a favourite we should know about!
