Here in the North East of England we are very lucky to have easy access to one of Europe's biggest shopping malls: Intu Metrocentre. I can actually remember it opening way back in 1986! (oops! showing my age there!) I can clearly recall visiting with my own mother to buy a coat when I was starting my first job at the age of 17!. The buzz surrounding the opening of Metrocentre, Gateshead was HUGE and in the 30 years since its grand opening it has certainly developed and grown almost beyond recognition.
Since Mimi was a baby we have visited almost every week and it remains our very favourite place to shop. You will still find us there once a week shopping, eating or just propped up in one of the many comfortable coffee shops chatting and planning. When we started our Christmas shopping this month we jumped in the car and within 30 minutes we were there (lots of free parking too!).
One of Intu Metrocentre's most recent additions has been its amazing new food area with many fantastic eateries including Zizzi, Pizza Express, Barburrito, Carluccios, Five Guys, Thaikhun, TGI Fridays and many more! We were literally spoilt for choice at lunchtime! We eventually settled on Coast to Coast, an American restaurant and bar residing in the Upper Qube. We ate a very tasty and filling meal to give us the energy to shop for the remainder of the day!

One of the very best things about Intu Metrocentre is the huge variety of retailers. From department stores like Debenhams and House of Fraser to fashion retailers such as River Island, Zara, New Look, Next to the giant (and recently extended) Primark store. As beauty lovers we absolutely love the high end beauty brands on offer in both House of Fraser (who have recently added Jo Malone to their beautiful store) and Debenhams. During this trip we thoroughly enjoyed having a good look around these stores for some gift ideas for our friends and family.
The Christmas decorations at Intu Metrocentre never fail to impress. From the giant size Christmas tree to the beautiful lights, every part of the mall is sparkling and festive and added to our shopping experience.

We ended the day loaded down with bags and thoroughly exhausted but what a successful Christmas shopping day! Pretty much all of our presents were purchased as well as a Christmas party outfit each!
Goodbye Intu Metro Centre! We will back to shop the sales very soon!
