I first discovered the magic of the cleansing balm a couple of years ago when Trilogy Makeup Be Gone first came into my life. Trilogy are my all time favourite skincare brand and regular readers will have seen many a post singing their praises. Their cleansing balm has remained a staple in my skincare routine however, in these days of austerity, I have been looking for lower priced alternatives.
I found the Elf Hydrating Gel Melt Cleanser on the shelves of Walmart on a recent trip to the USA and for $10 (compared to £20.50 for the Trilogy cleanser) I had to pop it into my shopping cart!
The Elf Hydrating Gel Melt Cleanser is cruelty free and vegan and has a soft and hydrating feel as you massage it into the skin. The Elf website states that the product is 'formulated with purified water and infused with nourishing Argan Oil, Rose Extracts and Rose Seed Oils to help moisturise the skin' I use the gel as my first evening cleanse to remove the majority of my makeup by massaging into my face and neck and then adding water to activate the lather. I then use cotton pads or a hot cloth to remove the cleanser and my makeup. It removes my face make up like magic and also lifts mascara off so easily! I always follow up with a cream cleanser as I like to 'double cleanse' so that I can be certain that all of my makeup is completely removed.
I have very sensitive and 'fussy' skin and have to be very careful with the products that I use as I break out easily however I am pleased to report that this product has been incredibly gentle on my skin and I have experienced no issues whatsoever.
As I purchased the Elf Hydrating Gel Melt Cleanser in the USA and I am only there twice a year I was interested to see if it was available in the UK. Elf have a UK website (HERE) and the cleanser is available for £12.50 (they are currently offering free standard shipping on all orders). Superdrug also sell a selection of Elf products (HERE) but unfortunately my local store is not currently stocking this product and it is not shown on their website. £12.50 is a few pounds more than I paid in the US so I will most definitely be stocking up when I visit in May so that I can save myself some money!
To summarise, I would highly recommend the Elf Hydrating Gel Melt Cleanser. It is hydrating on my dry skin and leaves it clean and soft. It is also half the price of my beloved Trilogy Makeup Be Gone Cleansing Balm and although I love Trilogy products I am all for making a saving when a product does exactly the same job!
