You'd have to have been living under a rock for the past 6 months to not have heard about the Netflix revival of one of our favourite shows - Gilmore Girls. The new four part revival 'Gilmore Girls - A Year In The Life' is due to be aired globally on Netflix November 25th and we couldn't be more excited for its premier! As a mother and daughter team we relate to the Lorelai/Rory relationship but without the razor sharp wit and mile a minute banter!
No Gilmore Girls fan in the land would pass up the opportunity to be transported to the fictional Luke's Diner. Therefore, when we heard that, to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the airing of the Gilmore Girls pilot, Netflix were transforming 200 cafes across the USA into Lukes for the day, we were sold! Call it fate - we Brit girls were only in the country for 2 weeks and the event was slap bang in the middle of our trip! It was simply too good to be true!
The Orlando event closest to us was at the Holy Grain Coffee Shop on Conroy Road. We didn't know what to expect or what the demand would be when we arrived there at 6.45am (the café was due to open at 7am) but when we pulled up outside the queue was lengthy! We got in line with the other (mostly female) fans as the sun came up. The chosen cafes were giving the first 250 customers free coffee in 'Luke's Diner' takeout cups and we were determined that we were getting one of those cups!
Although we waited over an hour to reach to front of the line the time went quickly. We chatted and made friends with some other customers and fully utilised the special Snapchat filter to capture some shots while waiting. Many visitors were wearing plaid shirts a-la-Luke and we saw many hundreds of selfies being taken!
As we approached the front of the line there was an opportunity to take pictures next to the 'Luke's' diner sign and an array of celebratory balloons. On entering the café we were delighted to see that the staff were all kitted out in 'Luke's' branded aprons and wearing Luke's trademark backwards baseball cap. We were handed our freshly brewed free coffee in the coveted cup and made the most of our opportunity to capture the goings on within the café for our blog post and vlog (check out our YouTube channel for all the live action!).
The famous 'No Cell Phones' sign was on display (we all know how Luke hates those cell phones!) along with a list of other no-no's when you dine at Lukes! Pictures of Lorelai and Rory drinking coffee adorned the tables where fans sat sipping and chatting.
We had a great morning hanging out with other fans in line and sampling Luke's coffee in the limited edition coffee cups and it made us even more excited for the Netflix revival next month. Thank you so much to Netflix for organising these events and to Holy Grain Coffee Shop for hosting. You made two Gilmore Girls fans very happy.
Love Elle and Mimi x
