We heard of the new L'Oreal Cushion Foundation some time ago when was not available to purchase in the UK. Needless to say we really wanted to try it so on our recent trip to the USA it was one of the first things we picked up. When we returned to the UK the product had launched and the range also included a bronzer that had not been available when we were in the USA!
Before we get into our review let us first highlight the fact that the USA and UK versions of the foundation have different names! In the USA the product is called L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation and in the UK it is called L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. The differences do not end there; the packaging is also slightly different with the USA version coming with a rose gold lid and the UK version has a pinkish/lilac lid. The shade names are also very confusing with the USA having 12 shades ranging from Light Ivory to Cocoa and having number and letter, depending on whether the tone is warm (W), cool (C) or neutral (N). The shade range in the UK starts at Light Vanilla to Golden Amber and only offers 7 different skin tones with an SPF25. Finally the price; those in the USA can pick up the foundation for $16.99 and we in the UK have to fork out £14.99! (Boots are currently selling the product at an introductory price of £9.99 for a limited time so snap it up while you can!) That gets the slightly confusing and possible negatives out of the way, now for that review!
Let's cut to the chase. We love this foundation! Both of us....unanimously! It is the perfect summer foundation and we cannot rave about it enough! We both started using it while we were in Florida and were immediately taken with how glowy and dewy it left our skin. We have used the sponge that comes in the compact and a beauty blender to apply the foundation and both work equally well. It is so quick and easy to apply and it just seems to sink into the skin giving a medium glowing coverage. We love the way this foundation looks on the skin. It gives a super natural look and we think it would be really difficult for it to ever took heavy or cakey - such is it's light texture!
Cons
Well, there aren't many to be honest! The jury is still out on the amount of product you get for your money and how long it will be before it runs out. The ones we purchased in the USA are already showing signs of running a bit low however we have read that if you 'flip' the sponge over it gives the product a new lease of life! We will be trying that soon! The final possible 'con' could be the price. The RRP of £14.99 is pretty high for a drugstore foundation, especially when our USA based friends can pick it up for USD $16.99 (around £11-£12) however we are finding that drugstore foundation prices have crept up steadily in recent years and are not always the under £10 bargain that they one were!
The range also includes a cushion bronzer called L'Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion Du Soliel (RRP £14.99) and although we have not tested this as much as the foundation is promises to offer the same glowy finish and a sunkissed natural look. We will certainly be using this over the summer months! Strangely, this cushion bronzer does not appear to be available in the USA at this time so for once the UK ladies get to try something first!
Incidently, earlier this year in Japan, L'Oreal launched the L'Oreal Cushion Blush! We are keeping our fingers crossed that these beautiful blushers are released soon to the UK and USA market as we are dying to get our hands on them!
Have you tried the L'Oreal Cushion Foundation? Do you love it as much a we do?
Love Elle and Mimi x
We were interested to see if the UK and USA versions were different in any way but they both appear to be the same formula and both apply and wear equally well. It appears that it is simply the packaging that is different.
